Jude Anthany Joseph (born Sijo Joseph) is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and actor working in the Malayalam film industry. Known for his engaging storytelling and ability to balance humor with emotion, he has established himself as a prominent filmmaker in contemporary Malayalam cinema.
Biography
Born Sijo Joseph, he legally changed his name to Jude Anthany Joseph in 2014, inspired by his affinity for Jude the Apostle. He completed his B-Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering from LBS Engineering College, Kasaragod, in 2005. Jude married Diyana Ann James on 14 February 2015.
Career
Jude Anthany Joseph began his career in films with Crazy Gopalan (2008) and later worked as an assistant director on Malarvaadi Arts Club (2010) and Thattathin Marayathu (2012). He also directed two short films: Yellow Pen (2012), starring Aju Varghese, and Mammookka's Biography (2011), a tribute to actor Mammootty, which went viral on YouTube in 2014.
He made his feature film directorial debut with Ohm Shanthi Oshaana (2014), which won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film with Popular Appeal and Aesthetic Value. His second film, Oru Muthassi Gadha (2016), further cemented his reputation as a director who combines humor with heartfelt storytelling.
Jude achieved major commercial success in 2018, which received positive reviews and grossed around ₹200 crores, becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time. In 2023, it was selected as India’s official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards.
In 2025, he is set to release Thudakam, which will mark the debut of Vismaya Mohanlal.
