Biography

Julia Garner (born February 1, 1994) is a captivating American actress who has quickly established herself as a versatile and compelling talent in the entertainment industry. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, she began taking acting lessons at the age of 15 to overcome her shyness.   

Garner's early career saw her take on challenging roles in independent films, earning critical praise for her performances in movies like Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011) and Electrick Children (2012). She further showcased her range in films such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014).

Her foray into television brought her wider recognition, with a recurring role in the FX series The Americans. However, it was her portrayal of the fierce and street-smart Ruth Langmore in the Netflix crime drama series Ozark (2017–2022) that became her breakout role. Garner's powerful performance earned her widespread critical acclaim and three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.   

Following the success of Ozark, Garner continued to impress, taking on the lead role in the Netflix miniseries Inventing Anna (2022), where she portrayed the real-life con artist Anna Sorokin. Her captivating performance earned her Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress in a Limited Series.   

Garner's other notable roles include appearances in the series Maniac, Dirty John, and the films The Assistant and The Royal Hotel. She is also set to appear as the Silver Surfer in the upcoming Marvel film The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025).
