Julie Bowen is an American actress, producer, and director, born on March 3, 1970, in Baltimore, Maryland. She studied Italian Renaissance studies at Brown University, where she also participated in theater productions before pursuing acting professionally.
Bowen began her acting career in television and gained recognition through roles in Ed, Boston Legal, ER, Lost, and Weeds. She also appeared in films including Happy Gilmore, Multiplicity, Horrible Bosses, Jumping the Broom, and Life of the Party.
Her biggest breakthrough came with the sitcom Modern Family, where she played Claire Dunphy from 2009 to 2020. Her performance earned her six consecutive Primetime Emmy nominations, with wins in 2011 and 2012 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
