Jung Ryeo Won

Biography

Jung Ryeo-won is a South Korean-Australian actress, model, and singer, born on January 21, 1982, in Seoul, South Korea. She moved with her family to Australia during her childhood and later returned to Korea, where she began her entertainment career as a member of the Korean girl group Chakra in 2000. After the group disbanded in 2004, she concentrated on acting.

She gained major recognition through the television dramas Hello Franceska (2005) and My Lovely Sam Soon (2005). Her film career also developed with Two Faces of My Girlfriend (2007), for which she won the Best New Actress award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards. She later earned acclaim for her performance in the 2009 film Castaway on the Moon.

Her television credits include Which Star Are You From (2006), History of the Salaryman (2012), Medical Top Team (2013), Witch at Court (2017), Wok of Love (2018), and Diary of a Prosecutor (2019–2020). Her performance in Witch at Court earned her the Top Excellence Award for Actress and Best Couple Award at the 2017 KBS Drama Awards.

In May It Please the Court (2022), Jung played Noh Chak-hee, a highly successful lawyer who is suddenly forced to work as a public defender. She becomes involved in a serial-murder case alongside the eccentric public defender Jwa Si-baek, played by Lee Kyu-hyung.

She later starred as Seo Hye-jin in the 2024 romance drama The Midnight Romance in Hagwon, continuing her work in character-driven television dramas.

Jung has also received recognition for her film work, winning the Korean Fantastic Award for Best Actress at the 2022 Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival for The Woman in the White Car.

With a career spanning music, film, and television, Jung Ryeo-won has established herself as a versatile performer, particularly noted for roles in romance, courtroom drama, comedy, mystery, and emotionally complex character stories.
