Biography

Kate Herron is a British filmmaker, director, and screenwriter known for her work in film and television. She was born on 30 September 1987 in London, England. She studied at the National Film and Television School, where she developed her skills in directing and screenwriting.

Herron began her career making short films and working in television. She gained recognition for directing episodes of the comedy-drama series Sex Education, as well as the anthology series Daybreak. Her distinctive visual style and ability to balance humor with emotional storytelling helped establish her as a promising filmmaker.

Her breakthrough came when she was selected to direct and executive produce the first season of Loki (2021) for Marvel Studios and Disney+. Herron directed all six episodes of the first season and played a major role in shaping the series' distinctive retro-futuristic visual style. Loki became one of Marvel's most successful Disney+ series and received widespread attention for its performances, storytelling, and production design.

Herron subsequently moved into feature filmmaking. She directed the science-fiction comedy The Latter Day and was attached to several major projects following her success with Loki. She also continued developing original television and film projects as a writer and producer.
