Biography
Justin Hartley is an American actor, producer, and director, born on January 29, 1977, in Knoxville, Illinois. He studied history and theater at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the University of Illinois at Chicago before moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting.
Hartley began his television career as Fox Crane on the soap opera Passions (2002–2006). He later gained popularity as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow on Smallville, appearing in the series from 2006 to 2011. He also had roles in Revenge, Mistresses, Emily Owens, M.D., and The Young and the Restless, earning a Daytime Emmy nomination for the latter.
His biggest breakthrough came with This Is Us, where he portrayed Kevin Pearson from 2016 to 2022. The role earned him several Critics' Choice nominations, while he and the cast won consecutive Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2018 and 2019.
Hartley later became the star and executive producer of CBS's Tracker, playing Colter Shaw, a skilled lone-wolf tracker who helps people solve mysteries. The series premiered in 2024 and became his major television project following This Is Us.
His film credits include A Bad Moms Christmas, Little, Jexi, The Noel Diary, and Bride Hard. Hartley has also directed episodes of Smallville and This Is Us, expanding his career behind the camera.
