Biography
Kalpana (born Archana Mohan; 18 July 1946 – 4 January 2012) was an Indian actress and trained Kathak dancer who worked in Hindi cinema during the 1960s. She was known for her charming screen presence and appeared alongside many of the leading stars of her era.
Early Life
Kalpana was born as Archana Mohan on 18 July 1946. She was the daughter of revolutionary Avani Mohan. Alongside her interest in acting, she was a skilled Kathak dancer and received formal training under the legendary guru Pandit Shambhu Maharaj. During her childhood, she lived for some time in Ambala Cantonment, where she attended school while her father worked with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission.
Career
Kalpana entered Hindi cinema in the early 1960s and appeared in several successful films. She starred opposite many leading actors, including Shammi Kapoor in Professor (1962), Dev Anand in Teen Devian (1965), Shashi Kapoor and Kishore Kumar in Pyar Kiye Jaa (1966), Pradeep Kumar in Saheli (1965), and Feroz Khan in Tasveer (1966) and Teesra Kaun (1965).
Although her film career was relatively brief, Kalpana earned appreciation for her graceful performances and versatility.
Personal Life
After retiring from films, Kalpana lived in Pune, Maharashtra, with her family and maintained a private life away from the entertainment industry.
Death
Kalpana passed away on 4 January 2012 at the age of 65. She is remembered for her contributions to Hindi cinema and for bringing elegance and charm to the films in which she appeared.
