Kamini Kaushal (born Uma Kashyap; 24 February 1927) is a legendary Indian actress who has worked in Hindi cinema for more than seven decades. Known for her graceful performances and versatility, she is regarded as one of the finest actresses of the golden era of Indian films.

Early Life

Kamini Kaushal was born on 24 February 1927 in Lahore, British India (now in Pakistan). She was the daughter of Professor Shiv Ram Kashyap, a renowned botanist. Before entering films, she completed her education and was active in theatre.

Film Career

Kamini Kaushal made her film debut with Neecha Nagar (1946), directed by Chetan Anand. The film won international recognition and introduced her as a talented actress. She gained widespread fame with Shaheed Latif's Ziddi (1948), opposite Dev Anand.

During the 1940s and 1950s, she became one of the leading actresses of Hindi cinema and worked with major stars and filmmakers. Her notable films include Do Bhai (1947), Nadiya Ke Paar (1948), Badi Bahen (1949), Arzoo (1950), Biraj Bahu (1954), Jailor (1958), and Godaan (1963).

In later years, she successfully moved into character roles and continued to impress audiences with films such as Shaheed (1965), Lagaan (2001), Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), and many television projects.
