Biography
Karan Razdan, born on April 25, 1961, is a multifaceted Indian filmmaker, actor, and writer known for his contributions to Bollywood. He has made significant impacts through his work in television, film direction, and screenwriting.
Early Life and Career
Hailing from a Kashmiri Pandit family, Razdan began his career in the early 1980s. He gained recognition as an actor in films like Disco Dancer (1982) and Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki (1984). However, it was his transition into television that marked a turning point in his career.
Television Success
In the mid-1980s, Razdan wrote and acted in the popular TV series Rajani, which became a household name. He also created and directed the detective series Tehkikaat (1994), starring Vijay Anand and Saurabh Shukla, further establishing his versatility in the industry.
Filmmaking Career
Razdan's directorial debut in films was marked by the controversial yet popular movie Girlfriend (2004), which explored themes of obsession and unrequited love. He continued to tackle bold subjects with films like Hawas (2004), Souten: The Other Woman (2006), and Mittal v/s Mittal (2010), addressing issues such as infidelity and domestic violence.
Apart from directing, Razdan has also contributed as a screenwriter to several successful films, including Dilwale (1994), Diljale (1996), and Deewane (2000).
Personal Life
Razdan married actress and social activist Priya Tendulkar in 1988; however, the couple separated in 1995. In 2002, he married Arti Bhatti, who is now known as Arti Razdan.
Recent Projects
In recent years, Razdan has directed the film Hindutva (2022), which delves into themes of identity and nationalism. He is also working on its sequel, Hindutva Chapter Two – Hindu Jaag Utha, set to be shot in Madhya Pradesh.
