Biography

Kate Maberly (born March 14, 1982) is an English artist known for her work as actress, director, writer, producer, and musician across film, television, radio, and theatre.

 

 

 

Biography and Education

Born in Reigate, Surrey, England, Kate Maberly is the daughter of a lawyer and one of five children; her older sister, Polly Maberly, is also an actress. She was an academically bright student, graduating early from Dunottar School with A-levels in Maths, Chemistry, History, and Music.

 

 

In addition to her academic success, Maberly is an accomplished musician. She began playing the piano at age six and later achieved Grade 8 in both Piano and Cello. She went on to study at London's Trinity College of Music, graduating in 2004 with a joint honors degree in piano and cello performance. She also composes music and sings jazz.

 

 

 

Acting Career Breakthrough

Maberly’s breakthrough role came in 1993 when she starred as Mary Lennox in the feature film The Secret Garden, a role that earned her international acclaim and an award from the London Critics Circle Film Awards.

 

 

Following this, she worked on various high-caliber period dramas for the BBC, including:

Anglo-Saxon Attitudes (with Kate Winslet and Daniel Craig)

The Last of the Blonde Bombshells (with Dame Judi Dench and Ian Holm)

The Emmy-winning Victoria & Albert

Daniel Deronda

 

 

Other notable film and television appearances include playing Wendy Darling in Finding Neverland, the horror miniseries The Langoliers, Gulliver's Travels, and later films such as Like Minds and Standing Up. On stage, she has played the role of Juliet in Romeo and Juliet.

 

 

 

Directing and Producing

In recent years, Maberly has expanded her focus to behind-the-camera work. In 2015, she wrote, directed, and produced the short film Charlie's Supersonic Glider, which was screened at the Hollywood Film Festival. She has also been involved in writing, producing, and directing the film adaptation of the young adult novel series, The Forest of Hands and Teeth.
