Kim Tae Ri
Biography
Kim Tae-ri is a South Korean actress, born on April 24, 1990, in Seoul, South Korea. She studied journalism and communication at Kyung Hee University before pursuing acting. She initially worked in theater and appeared in commercials before making her breakthrough in cinema.
Her breakthrough came with The Handmaiden (2016), directed by Park Chan-wook. She played Nam Sook-hee, a young woman who becomes involved in an elaborate scheme surrounding a wealthy Japanese heiress. Her performance earned her the Best New Actress award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards.
Kim subsequently starred in films such as 1987: When the Day Comes (2017), Little Forest (2018), Space Sweepers (2021), and Alienoid (2022). She has demonstrated considerable range, moving between historical drama, science fiction, action, romance, and slice-of-life stories.
On television, she gained widespread popularity through Mr. Sunshine (2018), in which she portrayed Go Ae-shin, a noblewoman who becomes involved in Korea's independence movement during the late Joseon period. She later starred in Twenty-Five Twenty-One (2022) as Na Hee-do, an aspiring fencer whose life and relationship unfold against the backdrop of the 1997 Asian financial crisis.
Kim received further acclaim for Revenant (2023), a supernatural mystery thriller in which she played Gu San-young, a young woman whose life becomes entangled with a mysterious evil spirit. Her performance earned her the Grand Prize (Daesang) at the 2023 SBS Drama Awards.
In Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born (2024), Kim played the title character Yoon Jeong-nyeon, a naturally gifted singer who dreams of becoming a star of traditional Korean women's theater in the 1950s. The role allowed her to combine acting with singing and performance.
With acclaimed work in both film and television, Kim Tae-ri has established herself as one of South Korea's most versatile actresses, particularly recognized for strong female characters, historical dramas, coming-of-age stories, romance, mystery, and fantasy.
