Kim Yong Wan
Biography
Kim Yong Wan studied mass communication at Hanyang University but quickly found a stronger interest in the collaborative spirit inherent in filmmaking once he joined the school’s movie club.
While directing several short movies like Unskilled Refuse (2005), winner of the Daegu Short Film Festival’s competition, he took part in the filming of many indie movies like Lovers of 6 Years(2007) and Handphone (2008) and served as first assistant director on a segment of film omnibus Lovers (2008). Action blockbuster Quick (2011) marked his first foray into commercial films as he took on the position of assistant director.
In 2014, his short Daytime Moon (2013) won several awards at the Jeongdongjin Independent Film Festival and the Great Short Film Festival. Following his directing of web series Love Cells (2014) and We Broke Up (2015), he released in 2018 his feature debut Champion (2017), led by Don LEE (a.k.a. MA Dong-seok) in the role of an arm wrestler trying to return to his glory days.
