K. P. Nambiathiri

Biography

K. P. Nambiathiri is an Indian cinematographer, photographer, stereographer, and filmmaker associated primarily with Malayalam cinema. He studied film technology at the Institute of Television and Film Technology in Chennai and later worked in several areas of filmmaking, including cinematography, assistant direction, and still photography.

Nambiathiri began his Malayalam cinematography career with Lal Salam and went on to work on around 65 films. His credits include Madhuchandralekha (2006), Immini Nalloraal (2005), Romeoo (2007), Bharya Swantham Suhruthu (2009), Pathinonnil Vyazham (2010), 72 Model (2013), Caribbean (2013), Garbhasreeman (2014), Raktharakshass (2014), and Sahapadi 1975 (2016).

He is particularly associated with 3D cinematography and stereography. He studied three-dimensional filmmaking techniques at Stereo Vision in Los Angeles and worked as a stereographer on projects including My Dear Kuttichathan and Magic Magic. He was also involved as a 3D consultant on other stereoscopic productions.

In addition to cinematography, Nambiathiri has directed films. His directorial credits include WFH (Work From Home) (2022), a Malayalam film starring Riyaz Khan, Rajeev Pillai, Shivani Bhai, and Bose Venkat. He also handled the cinematography for the project.

His career reflects a long association with both conventional filmmaking and emerging visual technologies, particularly 3D cinema. Through his work as a cinematographer and stereographer, K. P. Nambiathiri has contributed to the development of technical and visual experimentation in Malayalam cinema.
