Kuku Kohli
Biography
Kuku Kohli, born Avtar Kohli on June 4, 1949, in Peshawar, Pakistan, is a veteran director, writer, editor, and screenwriter in the Bollywood film industry. He began his career as an assistant to the legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor, working under him for over a decade. Kohli also served as the second unit director for films like Betaab (1983) and Arjun (1985), both of which were major successes.
Directorial Debut and Notable Films
Kohli made his directorial debut with Phool Aur Kaante (1991), which launched Ajay Devgn's career and featured the now-famous split-entry stunt. He continued to collaborate with Devgn in films like Suhaag (1994) and Haqeeqat (1995), the latter earning him a Filmfare nomination for Best Director. Other notable works include Kohraam (1991), Zulmi (1999), Anari No.1 (1999), Yeh Dil Aashiqanaa (2002), and Woh Tera Naam Tha (2004).
Personal Life
In 1990, Kohli married actress Aruna Irani, who was his second wife. The couple chose not to have children, with Irani explaining that she did not want their child to face societal challenges due to the circumstances of their marriage.
