Kundan Shah (19 October 1947 – 7 October 2017) was an Indian film director and writer. He is best known for his satirical films Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983) and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1994).
Early life and Education:
Kundan Shah was born in Mumbai, India. He studied at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, where he specialized in direction.
Career:
Shah began his career as an assistant director to Saeed Akhtar Mirza. He made his directorial debut with the 1983 film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, a critical and commercial success. The film is a satire on corruption in Indian politics and bureaucracy. It is considered a cult classic and is still relevant today.
In 1986, Shah directed the TV serial Nukkad, which was very popular. He also directed the TV serial Wagle Ki Duniya (1988), which was based on the characters created by cartoonist R.K. Laxman.
Shah's other notable films include Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1994), a romantic comedy starring Shah Rukh Khan, and Hum To Mohabbat Karega (2000), a romantic comedy starring Bobby Deol and Karishma Kapoor.
Shah also directed several short films and documentaries. He was a visiting professor at the FTII.
Awards:
Shah won the National Film Award for Best First Non-Feature Film for his 1982 documentary, Bhavni Bhavai. He also won the Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay for Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro.

Shah passed away on 7 October 2017, at the age of 69, after suffering a heart attack.
