Born on September 17, 1965, in Buffalo, New York, Chandler was raised in Loganville, Georgia. He developed an early interest in acting and storytelling, later studying drama at the University of Georgia, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama.
Chandler began his acting career in the late 1980s, making his television debut in the series China Beach and later gaining attention for his role in Homefront (1991–1993). As Coach Eric Taylor he embodied leadership, integrity, and compassion, earning an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
