Biography

Lake Bell (born March 24, 1979) is an American actress, screenwriter, director, and producer known for her work in film and television. Born in New York City, she studied at Skidmore College before attending Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama in London.

Bell began her acting career in the early 2000s with appearances in television series and films. She gained recognition through roles in productions such as Boston Legal, Surface, How to Make It in America, and Children's Hospital.

Her film credits include Over Her Dead Body (2008), What Happens in Vegas (2008), It's Complicated (2009), No Strings Attached (2011), Million Dollar Arm (2014), and The Secret Life of Pets (2016), in which she provided a voice performance.

In It's Complicated, Bell played Gaby, one of the characters connected to the romantic comedy's story about Jane Adler, her former husband Jake, and their complicated relationship after divorce.

Bell has also established herself as a filmmaker. She made her feature directorial debut with In a World... (2013), which she wrote, directed, and starred in. The film, a comedy about the voice-over industry, received critical acclaim and earned her the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the Sundance Film Festival.

She continued directing with films such as I Do... Until I Don't (2017) and has directed episodes of television series including Bless This Mess, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and This Is Us. She has also worked extensively as a voice actress.
