Lakshmi Gopalaswamy
Biography
Lakshmi Gopalaswamy is an Indian actress and classical dancer who has worked primarily in Malayalam cinema, along with Kannada and Tamil films. She was born on 7 January 1970 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. She is also trained in Bharatanatyam and began her career with appearances in advertisements before entering films.
Lakshmi made her Malayalam film debut with Arayannangalude Veedu (2000), directed by A. K. Lohithadas and starring Mammootty. Her performance earned her the Kerala State Film Award for Best Supporting Actress, immediately establishing her as a notable performer.
She subsequently appeared in several acclaimed Malayalam films, including Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal (2000), Achaneyanenikkishtam (2001), Vamanapuram Bus Route (2004), Keerthi Chakra (2006), Paradesi (2007), Thaniye (2007), Bhramaram (2009), Ividam Swargamanu (2009), Kamboji (2017) and Salute (2022).
Her performance in Thaniye and Paradesi brought her another Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actress in 2007. She also expanded her career into Kannada cinema and received the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actress for Vidaaya (2015).
Apart from acting, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy is recognized for her work as a Bharatanatyam dancer, and dance remains an important part of her artistic career. She has worked across Malayalam, Kannada and Tamil cinema, becoming particularly well known for mature and character-oriented performances.
