Lal Jose
Biography
Lal Jose is a prominent Indian film director, producer and actor who works mainly in Malayalam cinema. Born on 11 January 1966 in Valapad, Thrissur, Kerala, he began his career as an assistant director before establishing himself as one of Malayalam cinema's notable filmmakers.
Lal Jose started his filmmaking career by assisting director Kamal, working on 16 films between Pradeshika Vaarthakal (1989) and Krishnagudiyil Oru Pranayakalathu (1997). He also worked as an associate with several other filmmakers before making his independent directorial debut with Oru Maravathoor Kanavu (1998), starring Mammootty.
He rose to prominence with films such as Chandranudikkunna Dikkil (1999), Meesa Madhavan (2002), Chanthupottu (2005), Achanurangatha Veedu (2006), Classmates (2006), Arabikkatha (2007), Neelathaamara (2009), Elsamma Enna Aankutty (2010), Diamond Necklace (2012) and Ayalum Njanum Thammil (2012).
Classmates became one of the major commercial successes of his career, while Achanurangatha Veedu received critical acclaim. Ayalum Njanum Thammil earned him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Director. The FEFKA Directors' Union also lists state recognition for Achanurangatha Veedu and Classmates.
His later directorial works include Vikramadithyan (2014), Nee-Na (2015), Velipadinte Pusthakam (2017), Thattumpurath Achuthan (2018), Nalpathiyonnu (41) (2019), Meow (2021) and Solomante Theneechakal (2022).
