Laura Wolvaardt is a highly talented South African cricketer, widely regarded as one of the most promising batters in women's international cricket. Known for her elegant strokeplay, particularly the cover drive, she has rapidly ascended the ranks since her debut as a teenager.

 

 

Early Life and Introduction to Cricket:

Born on April 26, 1999, in Milnerton, Cape Town, South Africa, Laura Wolvaardt's cricketing journey began at a very young age. She started playing with boys at school and, at just 11, was selected for the Western Province U-19 girls' team. Within two years, she advanced to their senior side, showcasing her prodigious talent early on. Initially, playing professional cricket wasn't her primary goal, and she even gained admission to medical school. However, her undeniable talent and love for the game eventually led her to choose a cricket career.

 

 

International Debut and Rapid Rise:

Wolvaardt made her international debut for South Africa in 2016 at the age of 16, playing her first Women's One Day International (WODI) against England in February. Just four months later, at 17, she achieved a remarkable feat, becoming the youngest South African, male or female, to score an ODI century, hitting 105 runs against Ireland. Her T20 International debut followed in August 2016.

 

 

Her consistent performances earned her the Women's Newcomer of the Year award at Cricket South Africa's annual awards in 2017. In 2020, she was named South Africa's Women's Cricketer of the Year.
