Biography
Lawrence D'Souza is an Indian director, who is famous primarily for Bollywood movies. He has been working since the 1990s. He was born in Valencia, Mangalore and his parents are the Late Shri. Baptist, and Late Smt. Piyad of Pane-Mangalore. He did his education at Kapitanio school. He is married to Rita D'Souza. He is a highly religious man who worships Mother Mary.
He had worked as a production manager, cinematographer, assistant cameraman, production controller, director, producer, director of photography, executive producer, and line producer in a variety of films in Bollywood. Some of his movies include Sapne Sajan Ke, Dil Tera Aashiq, What's Your Raashee, and Fauji. Except for Dil Tera Deewana, Nadeem Shravan has given all of the music in his movies.
Saajan has been the biggest hit of his career to date and he has worked with many other successful directors and actors. In Jodhaa Akbar, he worked under the guidance of director Ashutosh Gowarikar, as line producer, which starred Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan.
He also worked with Ashutosh Gowarikar on other movies, like What's Your Raashee, Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se, and Mohenjo-Daro, acting as executive producer. He has been the director of Sanam Teri Kasam, the 2009 Bollywood movie starring Saif Ali Khan and Pooja Bhatt in lead roles. He was nominated for the Best Director award in the Filmfare awards, though he did not win. He was in the business from 1984 to 2010.
There was an attempt in his life in 2002, which he fortunately survived. Two gunmen fired him in front of his office. These assailants were suspected to be part of the Ejaz Lakdawada gang and had attacked him because prior he had been receiving death-threatening phone calls from them asking for ransom.
His son Rohit Dsouza works as an assistant director in the film industry. His daughter Roshi Dsouza worked as an editor in the film industry and now is an independent Post Producer and Editor based in Dubai (U.A.E).
