Biography
Lawrence Trilling is an American television director, writer, producer, and showrunner, born on June 29, 1966, in Wayne, New Jersey. He spent much of his childhood in Santa Monica, California, and studied English literature at Columbia University before earning an MFA in Film and Television Production from UCLA.
Trilling began his career writing and directing independent films. His early work includes Dinner and Driving (1997), Delivered (1998), Porn 'n Chicken (2002), and Group Sex (2010). He subsequently moved into television directing, making his mark on series such as Felicity, Roswell, Popular, Scrubs, and Alias.
He became an executive producer and director on the acclaimed family drama Parenthood, directing 38 episodes over the show's six-season run. He also directed episodes of Pushing Daisies, Damages, Monk, Masters of Sex, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Agent Carter, The Get Down, and Snowfall.
Trilling is particularly associated with the Amazon legal drama Goliath. He directed 22 episodes and served as showrunner and executive producer during the series' later seasons. The series starred Billy Bob Thornton as disgraced lawyer Billy McBride.
His later directing and producing credits include Condor, Outer Range, Nobody Wants This, and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. He has established a career spanning more than two decades, working across comedy, drama, crime, science fiction, and legal television.
