Lee Byung-hun, born on July 12, 1970, in Seoul, South Korea, has established himself as one of the most iconic and versatile actors of his generation, achieving both domestic superstardom and significant international recognition. His journey from a young hopeful to a global cinematic force is a testament to his captivating screen presence, exceptional acting range, and unwavering dedication to his craft.

Lee's career began in the early 1990s with television dramas, quickly winning over audiences with his charismatic performances in series like "Tomorrow Love" (1992). While he gained popularity on the small screen, his ambition extended to cinema. Early film roles brought modest success until the year 2000, which marked a turning point with Park Chan-wook's critically acclaimed and commercially successful film, Joint Security Area. This role not only showcased his talent but also earned him his first Best Actor award at the Busan Film Critics Awards.

The following years solidified his position as a leading man in South Korea. He delivered compelling performances in diverse genres, from the romantic drama Bungee Jumping of Their Own (2001) to the intense action noir A Bittersweet Life (2005), which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and garnered him further accolades, including Best Actor at the Baeksang Arts Awards and the Chunsa Film Art Awards. His ability to portray complex and nuanced characters, whether charming or menacing, became his trademark.

Lee also continued to captivate television audiences. The poker-themed drama All In (2003) and the high-octane espionage series Iris (2009) were massive hits, earning him prestigious awards like the Baeksang Arts Award for Best Actor (TV) for both series and the Grand Prize at the KBS Drama Awards for Iris.

In the late 2000s, Lee Byung-hun began his foray into Hollywood, marking a significant step in his global career. He made his Hollywood debut in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009), portraying the memorable villain Storm Shadow, a role he reprised in the sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013). He further showcased his versatility in Red 2 (2013) alongside Bruce Willis and in Terminator Genisys (2015) as the formidable T-1000. These roles demonstrated his ability to hold his own alongside established international stars.

Despite his Hollywood endeavors, Lee remained deeply involved in the South Korean film industry, consistently delivering powerful performances in films like the historical drama Masquerade (2012), for which he won numerous Best Actor awards, the gritty crime thriller Inside Men (2015), which earned him widespread critical acclaim and multiple Best Actor awards including at the Blue Dragon Film Awards and Grand Bell Awards, and the action-packed Ashfall (2019).

More recently, Lee has continued to impress audiences with his roles in the critically acclaimed television series Mr. Sunshine (2018), earning him another Baeksang Arts Award for Best Actor (TV), and the popular Netflix series Squid Game (2021-2024), where he plays the enigmatic Front Man.
