Biography

Li was born in Shanghai, China, and moved with her family to Bogotá, Colombia, when she was six because of her father's work as a painter. Three years later, they immigrated to New York City.

 

 

She studied dance at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School and later attended the acting conservatory at SUNY Purchase.

 

 

Her acting career began with a breakthrough role in the stage production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific in 2008. She then appeared in several television shows and films, including Blue Bloods, Damages, The Following, Chinese Puzzle, and Mistresses.

 

 

Her profile grew further through major roles in Billy and Billie and Minority Report. In 2016, she joined Quantico as FBI recruit Iris Chang and later became part of Chicago P.D.

 

 

In 2017, she became a series regular on The Exorcist, playing Rose Cooper. In 2019, she landed another leading role as Jenny Wah in Wu Assassins.

 

 

She appeared in Babylon, portraying a character inspired by pioneering actress Anna May Wong. Although the film divided critics, her performance received positive attention.

In 2025, she played Grace Chow in Sinners, a critically acclaimed film that earned its cast a Gotham Independent Film Award ensemble tribute.

 

 

More recently, she was cast in the live-action series Spider-Man Noir and, in 2026, joined the third season of The Last of Us as Miriam, while also being cast in the final season of The Night Agent as Min.
