L. Raja

Biography

L. Raja is an Indian film director and actor who has worked predominantly in Tamil-language films and television. He began his career as an assistant director before establishing himself as a filmmaker and later returning to the industry as a character actor.

Early Career

Raja started his career as an assistant to director Rajasekhar. He made his directorial debut with Shankar Guru (1987), produced by AVM Productions. The film marked the beginning of his career as an independent director.

He went on to direct nine films, with six featuring actor Arjun Sarja in the lead. His films were generally rooted in commercial Tamil cinema, combining action, family relationships and social themes.

Career as an Actor

After taking a break of nearly 18 years from filmmaking, Raja returned to the entertainment industry as an actor. He made his acting debut with Muniyandi Vilangial Moonramandu (2008).

Following his debut, he became a familiar supporting actor and appeared in around 35 films. One of his notable roles was in Naadodigal, where he played the father of Sasikumar's character.

His later acting career allowed him to work across a variety of Tamil films, often portraying fathers, elders, and other supporting characters.

Television Career

Raja also established himself in Tamil television. He made his television acting debut with the serial Raghuvamsam, which received positive attention.

He subsequently acted in several television serials and expanded his career behind the camera. He directed two television series, Idhi Kadha Kaadhu and Ninne Pelladutha, for Radaan Mediaworks.

He also directed Himsaveda, a silent dance drama produced by AVM Productions.

Personal Life

L. Raja is married to actress Easwari Rao. The couple has two children. Both Raja and Easwari Rao have maintained careers in the South Indian entertainment industry.
