Lukman Avaran
Biography
Lukman Avaran, also known as Lukman Lukku, is an Indian actor who primarily works in Malayalam cinema. Born on 22 May 1990 in Changaramkulam, Malappuram, Kerala, he developed an interest in acting during his school and college years. He later graduated in Applied Electronics and Instrumentation from the Royal College of Engineering and Technology.
Early Life and Career
Coming from Malappuram, Lukman initially pursued engineering and did not begin his career with an immediate expectation of becoming a professional actor. His interest in performance grew through school plays and theatre activities. After being recognized for his acting ability at a college theatre festival, he began taking cinema more seriously. He eventually moved to Kochi, where he attended auditions, worked on short films and looked for opportunities in the film industry.
Lukman's early screen appearances included small roles, with Dayom Panthrandum (2013) becoming one of his early feature-film associations. He gradually gained attention through films such as KL 10 Patthu (2015), Hadiyya (2017), Godha (2017), French Viplavam (2018), and Sudani from Nigeria (2018).
Breakthrough and Recognition
A major turning point came with Unda (2019), in which he played police constable Biju Kumar. His performance attracted considerable attention and helped establish him as a promising character actor. He subsequently appeared in films including Virus (2019), Forensic (2020), Churuli (2021), and Anugraheethan Antony (2021).
In 2021, Lukman took on a prominent role in Operation Java, directed by Tharun Moorthy. He played Vinaya Dasan, one of the central characters in the cybercrime drama. The film became an important step in his progression from supporting roles toward more substantial parts. He also appeared in No Man's Land, Churuli, and Ajagajantharam during the same period.
Major Films
Lukman continued to expand his range with a series of notable performances. In Thallumaala (2022), directed by Khalid Rahman, he played Jamshi alongside Tovino Thomas. The film's energetic action style and unconventional presentation brought further visibility to his work.
Another important film in his career was Saudi Vellakka (2022), directed by Tharun Moorthy. Lukman portrayed Abhilash Sasidharan in the acclaimed drama, which was selected for the Indian Panorama section of the 53rd International Film Festival of India. His performance contributed to the film's strong critical reception.
His subsequent filmography includes Sulaikha Manzil (2023), Jackson Bazaar Youth (2023), Corona Dhavan (2023), Anchakkallakokkan (2024), Perumani (2024), Kundannoorile Kulsitha Lahala (2024), and Turkish Tharkkam (2024).
In 2025, he appeared in Alappuzha Gymkhana, directed by Khalid Rahman, playing Antony Joshua, a former national-level boxer who becomes a coach. The role required physical preparation and an understanding of boxing techniques, marking another demanding performance in his career.
Other Work
Apart from acting, Lukman has also worked in other areas of filmmaking. He served as a cinematographer for the English-language film From Freetown TL (2016). He has also received music-related credits, including playback singing for Kakshi: Amminippilla (2019) and Corona Dhavan (2023).
Awards and Personal Life
Lukman received the Prem Nazir Samskarika Sahithi Award in 2023 and the Kerala Film Critics Association Special Jury Award for Saudi Vellakka.
He married Jumaima in February 2022. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was also involved in collecting funds and distributing medicines and food kits to people in need.
