Maathu
Biography
Maathu, born Madhavi, is an Indian actress who was primarily active in Malayalam cinema during the 1980s and 1990s. She began her career as a child artist and later became one of the popular leading actresses of Malayalam films in the early 1990s.
She entered the film industry as a child artist in the Kannada film Sannadi Appanna (1977), for which she received the Karnataka Government's award for Best Child Artist. She made her Malayalam film debut with Pooram (1989), directed by Nedumudi Venu.
Maathu gained widespread recognition for her performance as Radha in Bharathan's acclaimed Malayalam film Amaram (1991), opposite Mammootty. She subsequently appeared in films including Kuttettan (1990), Sandesham (1991), Aayushkalam (1992), Sadayam (1992), Uppukandam Brothers (1993), Malappuram Haji Mahanaya Joji (1994), Oru Abhibhashakante Case Diary (1995), Mattupetti Machan (1998), and Aayiram Meni (1999).
After a long break from acting, Maathu returned to Malayalam cinema with Aniyan Kunjum Thannalayathu (2019). Her career is particularly remembered for her natural performances and her memorable roles in the Malayalam films of the late 1980s and 1990s.
