Mark Sinclair Chapman is a versatile international cricketer who has represented both Hong Kong and New Zealand. Born on June 27, 1994, in Hong Kong to a Chinese mother and a New Zealand father, Chapman's multicultural background has been a unique aspect of his cricketing journey.
Early Life and Domestic Career
Chapman began his cricketing career in Hong Kong, making his debut for the national team at the age of 16 during the 2011 ICC World Cricket League Division Three tournament. He quickly established himself as a key player, top-scoring with an unbeaten 70 in the final against Papua New Guinea, helping Hong Kong secure promotion to Division Two.
After moving to New Zealand for his education, attending King's College in Auckland and later the University of Auckland, Chapman continued to develop his cricketing skills. His performances for Auckland in domestic competitions caught the attention of New Zealand selectors, leading to his inclusion in the national squad.
International Career
Chapman made his T20 International debut for Hong Kong against Nepal on March 16, 2014, and his One Day International (ODI) debut against the United Arab Emirates on November 16, 2015, where he scored an unbeaten 124.
In 2018, Chapman began representing New Zealand, making his T20I and ODI debuts in February against England. He has since become a regular feature in New Zealand's limited-overs squads.
Notably, Chapman is the first player to score 50+ runs for two countries in T20 Internationals, achieving this feat with scores of 63* for Hong Kong and 63 for New Zealand.
