Biography

Matteo Cocco, born on 29 December 1985, is an Italian cinematographer known for his work in European cinema. Born in Tuscany and raised in Rome, he developed an interest in cinematography early in his career and went on to establish himself as a prominent visual artist in both Italian and international film productions.

Early Life and Education

Cocco studied cinematography at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome between 2005 and 2008. After completing his studies, he moved to Germany in 2008 in search of broader professional opportunities. His move proved to be an important turning point in his career, eventually leading to his collaboration with acclaimed filmmaker Philip Gröning.

Career

Cocco gained wider recognition for his cinematography in Philip Gröning's award-winning film The Police Officer's Wife. The film's restrained visual style and carefully composed imagery helped bring attention to Cocco's work as a cinematographer.

He subsequently worked on a variety of Italian and European productions, demonstrating an ability to adapt his visual approach to different genres and narrative styles. In 2016, he received a Nastro d'Argento nomination for his cinematography in Per amor vostro and Pericle.
