Biography

 

Max Riemelt, born 7 January 1984 in East Berlin, Germany, is a German actor known for his work in film and television. He began acting as a teenager and made his television debut in the 1990s. He gained early recognition through German productions before establishing himself as a respected character actor.

 

Riemelt received international attention for his performance as Friedrich Weimer in Before the Fall (2004), earning the Best Actor award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. He later starred in films including The Wave (2008), Free Fall (2013), To Life! (2014), and Berlin Syndrome (2017).

 

His international breakthrough came with Netflix's Sense8 (2015–2018), in which he played Wolfgang Bogdanow, a Berlin locksmith and safecracker who becomes part of a mysterious group of mentally connected people.

 

Riemelt also appeared in The Matrix Resurrections (2021) and later starred in the German series Bonn (2023) and Netflix's Sleeping Dogs (2023). His recent film work includes The Tasters (2025) and Two to One (2024).

 

Through his career spanning German and international productions, Riemelt has become particularly recognized for dramatic, complex, and emotionally intense roles.
