She is best known for her role as Robin Buckley in the Netflix science fiction series Stranger Things and for her performances in films such as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Do Revenge, Asteroid City, Maestro, and Inside Out 2, in which she voiced the emotion Anxiety. Hawke was diagnosed with dyslexia during childhood, which made traditional schooling challenging. She attended several schools specializing in learning differences before enrolling at the prestigious Juilliard School to study acting. She left after a year when she began receiving professional acting opportunities.
