Melanie Griffith is an American actress known for her work in films ranging from romantic comedies and dramas to thrillers. She was born on August 9, 1957, in New York City.

 

 

Early Life and Career

Griffith grew up around the entertainment industry as the daughter of actress Tippi Hedren and advertising executive Peter Griffith. She began acting as a teenager, appearing in films such as The Harrad Experiment (1973).

Her early performances in films including Night Moves (1975), Body Double (1984), and Something Wild (1986) established her as a versatile actress capable of playing both dramatic and unconventional roles.

 

 

Breakthrough with Working Girl

Griffith achieved her greatest success with Working Girl (1988), directed by Mike Nichols. She played Tess McGill, an ambitious secretary who gets an opportunity to advance her career after her boss is injured.

Her performance earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, as well as a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical.

 

 

Later Career

Griffith continued appearing in films such as Pacific Heights (1990), The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990), A Stranger Among Us (1992), Nobody's Fool (1994), and Crazy in Alabama (1999). She also appeared on television, including the series Raising Hope.
