Michael Cuesta is an American film and television director, producer, and writer, born on July 8, 1963, in New York City. He studied photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York and began his career in photography and visual storytelling.
Cuesta gained recognition with his independent film L.I.E. (2001), which he co-wrote and directed. The film received critical acclaim and helped launch his television career. He subsequently directed episodes of acclaimed series such as Six Feet Under, Dexter, and True Blood.
He became particularly known for his work on Homeland, directing its pilot and several episodes while also serving as an executive producer. His direction of the Homeland pilot earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination.
His feature-film credits include 12 and Holding, Tell-Tale, Roadie, Kill the Messenger, and American Assassin. He has also directed episodes of Blue Bloods, Elementary, Billions, City on a Hill, Dopesick, and Accused.
