Michael Hastings
Biography
Michael Hastings (1937–2011) was a British playwright and screenwriter known for his work in theatre, film, and television. He was born in England and became recognized for writing dramatic works that often explored complex personal relationships and historical subjects.
Hastings wrote several plays for the British stage and was also involved in adapting literary and theatrical material for the screen. One of his best-known works was The Devil's Disciple, and he contributed to several productions for British television.
He also wrote the screenplay for The Nightcomers (1971), a psychological horror film directed by Michael Winner. The film serves as a prequel to Henry James's The Turn of the Screw, depicting the relationship between Peter Quint and Miss Jessel and the disturbing events that preceded the deaths described in the original novel.
Hastings's work was noted for its dramatic intensity and interest in morally complicated characters. His contributions to theatre and screenwriting made him a distinctive figure in British drama.
