Michael Kamen
Biography
Michael Kamen was born on April 15, 1948, in New York City, New York, USA. He was a composer and actor, known for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), Don Juan DeMarco (1994), and X-Men (2000). He was married to Sandra Keenan. He died on November 18, 2003 in London, England, UK.
Co-wrote songs with Bryan Adams.
Credited on the X-Men (2000) soundtrack as Michael K-Men.
Founded the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation http://www.mhopus.org which supports music education and its benefits through the donation and repair of musical instruments to under-served schools, community music programs, and individual students throughout the United States.
His score for The Dead Zone (1983) is an adaptation of, and variation on, a theme from the second movement of the Symphony Nr. 2 in D of Finnish composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957).
Educated at Juilliard School, New York. Studied oboe.
Started The New York Rock Ensemble after Juilliard with fellow grads -- group performed in the "rock western" Zachariah (1971).
Children: daughters Sasha Kamen and Zoe Kamen.
Played in the orchestra and led the school dance band.
Graduated from High School of Music & Art (New York City) in 1965.
Brother of producer Jon Kamen.
