Biography

Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475–1564) was an Italian sculptor, painter, architect, and poet, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures of the Renaissance. Born on March 6, 1475, in Caprese, Italy, he demonstrated extraordinary artistic talent from a young age and trained under prominent Florentine artists, eventually developing a distinctive style that combined technical mastery with profound emotional expression.

Michelangelo’s career spanned multiple disciplines. As a sculptor, he created iconic works such as David (1501–1504) and Pietà (1498–1499), celebrated for their anatomical precision, dramatic composition, and expressive realism. As a painter, his frescoes in the Sistine Chapel (1508–1512), including The Creation of Adam, revolutionized art with their dynamic figures and innovative use of perspective. In architecture, he contributed to the design of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, demonstrating his versatile genius.

Michelangelo’s work reflects a deep understanding of human anatomy, emotion, and spiritual themes. Despite facing political pressures and personal hardships, he maintained his dedication to art throughout his life. He died on February 18, 1564, in Rome, leaving a legacy that continues to define Western art and inspire generations of artists worldwide.
