Mike Lobell, also credited as Michael Lobell, is an American film producer and production executive known for his work on a variety of comedies, romantic films, dramas, and action movies. He became particularly prominent as a producer during the 1980s and 1990s, collaborating frequently with writer-director Andrew Bergman.

Early Career

Lobell began his film-producing career in the late 1970s. One of his earliest producing credits was Dreamer (1979). He followed this with films such as Windows (1980) and So Fine (1981), establishing himself as a producer of character-driven and unconventional stories.

Lobell's producing career expanded significantly during the 1980s. He worked on The Journey of Natty Gann (1985) and Chances Are (1989), both of which received Academy Award recognition.

The Freshman

One of Lobell's most recognizable productions is The Freshman (1990). Directed and written by Andrew Bergman, the comedy stars Marlon Brando, Matthew Broderick, Bruno Kirby, Penelope Ann Miller, and Frank Whaley.

The story follows Clark Kellogg, a young film student who arrives in New York and becomes involved with mobster Carmine Sabatini, a character deliberately modeled after Brando's iconic role in The Godfather. Lobell served as the film's producer.

Honeymoon in Vegas

Lobell again collaborated with Bergman on Honeymoon in Vegas (1992), starring Nicolas Cage, Sarah Jessica Parker, and James Caan. The romantic comedy follows a man whose wedding plans become complicated after a high-stakes poker game in Las Vegas.

The film became one of Lobell's notable commercial productions and strengthened his association with mainstream romantic comedy.
