Miles Millar

Biography

Miles Millar (born 1967) is an Australian-British screenwriter, producer, showrunner, creator, and director. He is best known for his long-running collaboration with screenwriter Alfred Gough and for co-creating the television series Smallville and Wednesday.

Born in Australia, Millar grew up in Sydney before moving to the United Kingdom at the age of nine. He studied at Christ's College, Cambridge, and later attended the Peter Stark Producing Program at the University of Southern California, where he met Alfred Gough, who became his longtime writing and producing partner.

Millar and Gough began writing together in the 1990s and went on to work on films including Lethal Weapon 4 (1998), Shanghai Noon (2000), Shanghai Knights (2003), Spider-Man 2 (2004), Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005), The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008), and I Am Number Four (2011).

Their major television success came with Smallville (2001–2011), the Superman-inspired series following the younger years of Clark Kent. Millar and Gough created and served as executive producers and showrunners of the series during its early seasons.

They later co-created Into the Badlands and The Shannara Chronicles. In 2022, Millar and Gough created Wednesday, the Netflix series centered on Wednesday Addams. The show became a major international success and further established Millar as a prominent television creator.

Millar also co-wrote Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024) with Alfred Gough. The sequel to Tim Burton's Beetlejuice was based on a story by Gough, Millar, and Seth Grahame-Smith and reunited Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder with a new generation of characters.

Through his work in film and television, Miles Millar has become known for developing genre-driven stories that combine fantasy, action, comedy, supernatural elements, and recognizable popular characters.
