Mitesh Mirchandani is one of India's young and versatile cinematographers. The avid basketball player has a unique leg up when dealing with the art of Filmmaking. His years on the court have taught him the importance of collaboration and teamwork.
Growing up in Mumbai, he was close to and keen on the world of 'Movies'. He got an opportunity to work as a Set PA on an American miniseries for HBO. This is where he realized how important a role, the Cinematographer plays on set. The following year, he enrolled at the New York Film Academy (NYFA). He came back and worked his way up the ranks.
In the same year, he got his first Independent assignment as DP on a regional independent feature film called 'Vakratunda Mahakaaya'. He followed this up with the heartfelt comedy 'Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana', all this at the young age of 21. He then started shooting commercials and worked with some of the most reputed production houses. The journey had begun.
His work in advertising led him to meet ad-filmmaker Ram Madhvani, who offered Mitesh his upcoming feature film - a biographical drama 'Neerja' (2016). Mitesh used a multi-camera setup, available light, a hand-held camera, and wide-angle lenses for achieving claustrophobia and an immersive visual style. The movie and his work were highly lauded, earning him a Filmfare award for Best Cinematography (2016).
An Indian Air Force commercial he shot caught the eye of Producer Sonia Kanwar, who passed his work on to debut director, Aditya Dhar which led to his next film 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' (2019). The film boasts of action sequences rarely seen in Indian cinema adding a unique & strong visual treatment to this multiple National award-winning movie.
