Biography
M. Jayachandran (born 14 June 1971) is an Indian music composer, playback singer, and musician, best known for his work in Malayalam cinema. He began learning Carnatic music at the age of five and later studied electrical engineering at the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram.
He began his film career as a singer with Vasudha (1992) and later worked as an assistant to veteran composer Devarajan Master. His independent debut as a music director came with Chantha (1995).
Jayachandran has composed music for numerous Malayalam films, including Nandanam (2002), Perumazhakkalam (2004), Notebook (2006), Puthiya Niyamam (2016), Kambhoji (2017), Odiyan (2018) and Sufiyum Sujatayum (2020).
His most significant national recognition came for Ennu Ninte Moideen (2015), for which he won the National Film Award for Best Music Direction (Songs). He has also won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director nine times, making him one of the most decorated composers in the award's history.
M. Jayachandran is regarded as one of the leading contemporary composers in Malayalam cinema, known for combining classical musical influences with melodic film compositions.
