Morgan Kibby

Biography

Morgan Kibby is an American composer, singer, songwriter, and record producer known for her work in film and television as well as her career as a recording artist. She is a classically trained pianist, cellist, and vocalist and began performing with orchestras, the San Francisco Opera, jazz ensembles, and musical theatre during her youth.

 

Kibby gained international recognition as a core member of the French electronic band M83, contributing as a vocalist, instrumentalist, songwriter, and live performer. She worked with the group during the period that produced the acclaimed album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, which included the platinum single "Midnight City" and earned a Grammy nomination.

 

Alongside her work with M83, Kibby developed a career as a songwriter and producer. She has contributed to music associated with artists including Panic! at the Disco, Harry Styles, and Lady Gaga, and has released solo material under the names White Sea and Sue Clayton.

 

Kibby moved into film scoring with ** Bang Gang (A Modern Love Story) ** (2015), directed by Eva Husson. Her score received the Best Original Score award at the Les Arcs European Film Festival, and she subsequently attended the Sundance Institute Composer Lab at Skywalker Ranch.

 

Her television and film scoring credits include Hanna, Grand Army, Mothering Sunday, The Watcher, Wilderness, Victim/Suspect, Queens, Grotesquerie, and American Horror Stories.

Kibby composed the original score for Amazon's science-fiction drama ** The Power ** (2023), based on Naomi Alderman's novel. The nine-episode series explores a world in which women suddenly develop the ability to generate electricity. Kibby's score was released as a soundtrack album by Milan Records.

 

Her work has earned additional recognition, including two Royal Television Society awards in 2024 for her score for the documentary series Queens, as well as a Jackson Wild Award for Best Original Score.

 

With a career spanning electronic music, songwriting, production, and screen composition, Morgan Kibby has established herself as a versatile music creator whose notable work includes The Power, Wilderness, The Watcher, Mothering Sunday, and her collaborations with M83 and major recording artists.
