Biography
Muhammad Waseem is a dynamic right-handed opening batter who represents the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in international cricket. Born on February 12, 1996, in Mian Channu, Punjab, Pakistan, Waseem moved to the UAE and qualified to play for the national team in April 2021 after fulfilling the ICC's residency requirements.
Early Life and Domestic Career
Waseem's cricketing journey began in Pakistan, where he played club cricket but didn't progress beyond the district level. In 2016, he moved to the UAE, initially playing in local tournaments. His breakthrough came during the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 League, where he equaled the record for the fastest fifty in T10 cricket, scoring 56* off just 13 balls.
His domestic success led to opportunities in various franchise leagues, including stints with the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League, Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League, and MI Emirates in the International League T20.
International Career
Waseem made his T20 International debut for the UAE against Namibia on October 5, 2021. Just five days later, he scored his maiden T20I century, an unbeaten 107 against Ireland.
He debuted in One Day Internationals (ODIs) on February 5, 2022, against Oman. In March 2023, Waseem was appointed as the UAE's ODI captain, leading the team in various international fixtures.
