Mukesh Madhavan
Biography
Mukesh Madhavan, popularly known simply as Mukesh, is an Indian actor, film producer, television presenter, and politician who has worked predominantly in Malayalam cinema. He was born on 5 March 1957 in Kollam, Kerala, to renowned theatre and film personalities O. Madhavan and Vijayakumari.
Early Life and Education
Mukesh grew up in a family closely connected with theatre. He studied at Infant Jesus Anglo-Indian School in Kollam and later earned a B.Sc. degree from Sree Narayana College, Kollam. He subsequently obtained a law degree from Kerala Law Academy Law College, Thiruvananthapuram. Before entering films, he was active in stage dramas.
Acting Career
Mukesh made his film debut with Balloon (1982). During the 1980s, he appeared in several Malayalam films and gradually became known for his comic timing and supporting performances. His breakthrough came with Ramji Rao Speaking (1989), which established him as one of Malayalam cinema's popular comedy actors.
He subsequently appeared in successful films such as In Harihar Nagar, Godfather, Vietnam Colony, Ayalathe Adheham, Sipayi Lahala, Friends, Chronic Bachelor, and Kakkakuyil. He also became well known for his recurring role as Chacko in the CBI film series.
Over a career spanning more than four decades, Mukesh has acted in more than 250 Malayalam films, covering comedy, drama, romance, and character-oriented roles.
Television and Production
Mukesh has also had a successful television career as an anchor and presenter. He hosted programs including Deal or No Deal and Sell Me the Answer, and appeared on the popular comedy show Badai Bungalow.
As a producer, he was associated with the acclaimed Malayalam film Kadha Parayumbol (2007), which received several awards.
Political Career
Mukesh entered politics and was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from the Kollam constituency in 2016. His political career has continued alongside his work in the entertainment industry.
Personal Life
Mukesh was married to actress Saritha in 1988, and they have two sons, including actor Shravan Mukesh. The couple later divorced. Mukesh subsequently married dance scholar Methil Devika in 2013.
