Muniratna Naidu
Biography
Muniratna Naidu, popularly known as Munirathna, is an Indian film producer, writer, and politician from Karnataka. He is known for producing Kannada films and later entering politics. His film credits include Aunty Preethse (2001), Raktha Kanneeru (2003), Anatharu (2007), Kataariveera Surasundaraangi (2012), and Kurukshetra (2019).
Film Career
Munirathna began his career in the Kannada film industry as a producer. He also received story, screenplay, and dialogue credits for Kambalahalli (2002). He went on to produce films such as Raktha Kanneeru, Anatharu, and Kataariveera Surasundaraangi.
His most ambitious film project was Kurukshetra (2019), a large-scale Kannada epic based on the Mahabharata. Directed by Naganna and written by J. K. Bharavi, the film featured Darshan as Duryodhana along with an ensemble cast including Ambareesh, V. Ravichandran, Arjun Sarja, Sonu Sood, Sneha, and Nikhil Kumar. Muniratna also received a writing credit on the film.
Political Career
After establishing himself as a film producer, Muniratna entered politics and became a member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Rajarajeshwari Nagar. He was associated with the Indian National Congress before joining the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2019. He subsequently served as a minister in the Karnataka government from 2021 to 2023.
Muniratna's career therefore spans both Kannada cinema and Karnataka politics, with Kurukshetra remaining one of his most prominent contributions to the film industry.
