Nanda Periyasamy

Biography

Nanda Periyasamy, born in 1968, is an Indian filmmaker who has worked in Tamil cinema as a director, screenwriter, and actor. His journey in the film industry began with the ambitious police thriller Mahaa in 2002, which was supposed to star Ajith Kumar, Sneha, and Kiran Rathod. However, the project was shelved after Ajith was involved in an accident.

His directorial debut came with Oru Kalluriyin Kathai (2005), but the film received mixed reviews and did not perform well at the box office. Following this, Periyasamy worked on the pre-production of a film titled Ardhanari, which was eventually shelved.

His next project, Maathi Yosi, was a more socially conscious film dealing with issues like untouchability and casteism. While the film explored sensitive themes and featured a largely new cast, it garnered mixed reviews.

In addition to his work behind the camera, Periyasamy appeared in acting roles, notably in Mayandi Kudumbathar (2009), where he shared screen space with other directors. He returned to directing in 2013 with Azhagan Azhagi and followed it with the romantic comedy Vanna Jigina in 2015.

As an actor, Nanda Periyasamy played villainous roles in Sandakozhi 2 and Market Raja MBBS. He also contributed as a story writer for the Hindi film Rashmi Rocket (2020), starring Taapsee Pannu and directed by Akarsh Khurana.

Nanda's more recent project was the 2021 film Anandham Vilayadum Veedu, where he returned to directing, continuing his multifaceted career in the Tamil film industry.
