Biography
Navneet Kaur Rana (also known as Navneet Ravi Rana) is an Indian politician and former actress, primarily recognized for her work in Telugu cinema. She transitioned from a successful film career to politics, where she has been active at both the regional and national levels.
Early Life and Education
Navneet Kaur Rana was born and raised in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, into a Punjabi family of Ravidassia heritage. Her father was an army official. She completed her schooling up to the 12th standard at Karthika High School in Kurla, Mumbai, before discontinuing formal education to pursue a career in modeling. She appeared in several music videos before entering the film industry.
Film Career
Navneet made her film debut with the Kannada film Darshan and later entered Telugu cinema with Seenu Vasanthi Lakshmi (2004). Some of her notable Telugu films include Chetna (2005), Jagapathi (2005), Good Boy (2005), and Bhuma (2008). She also appeared in films such as Kalachakram, Terror, Flash News, and Jabilamma, the Telugu remake of the Hindi film Chameli.
In addition to films, she participated in the Gemini TV reality show Humma Humma and acted in the Malayalam film Love in Singapore. She also starred in the Punjabi film Lad Geya Pecha (2010) opposite Gurpreet Ghuggi.
Political Career
After marrying Ravi Rana, Navneet Kaur Rana entered politics. She contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections as a Nationalist Congress Party candidate but was unsuccessful. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, she was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Amravati, Maharashtra, as an independent candidate with support from the Indian National Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party, defeating Shiv Sena candidate Anandrao Adsul.
In the 2024 elections, she contested again from Amravati on a BJP ticket but lost to Congress candidate Balwant Wankhede by a margin of 19,731 votes. Throughout her political career, she has been involved in occasional altercations with Shiv Sena and its members, both locally and nationally.
