Ned Beatty (6 July 1937 – 13 June 2021) was an American actor known for his powerful character roles in film, television, and theatre. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, he began his acting career on stage before moving into films in the early 1970s.
Beatty made his feature film debut in Deliverance, where his performance as Bobby Trippe earned widespread recognition. He became known for portraying complex, often authoritative or troubled characters with great depth.
He appeared in many acclaimed films, including Network, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his memorable role as Arthur Jensen. He also starred in Superman: The Movie, Superman II, and Superman III as Otis, the clumsy but loyal assistant of Lex Luthor.
Other notable films in his career include All the President's Men, Nashville, Silver Streak, Back to School, and Toy Story 3, where he voiced Lots-O'-Huggin' Bear.
