Nicholas Stoller

Biography

Nicholas Stoller is a British-born American filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer best known for his sharp comedic style and heartfelt storytelling. Born on March 19, 1976, in London, England, Stoller moved to the United States during his childhood and was raised in Miami, Florida. He attended Harvard University, where he wrote for the Harvard Lampoon, a breeding ground for some of comedy’s most successful writers.

Stoller began his career in television, writing for Undeclared (2001–2002), a short-lived but influential comedy series created by Judd Apatow. His collaboration with Apatow would later become a defining factor in his career, helping him break into feature filmmaking.

He made his directorial debut with Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008), a hit romantic comedy that balanced humor with emotional depth. The film’s success established Stoller as one of the leading voices in contemporary comedy. He went on to direct and co-write several other popular comedies, including Get Him to the Greek (2010), The Five-Year Engagement (2012), Neighbors (2014), and its sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016).

In addition to directing, Stoller has worked as a writer and producer on numerous projects, such as The Muppets (2011), The Muppets Most Wanted (2014), and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (2017). He also co-created and produced the acclaimed Netflix series Friends from College (2017–2019), which explored the complexities of adult friendships and relationships.

More recently, Stoller co-wrote and directed Bros (2022), a groundbreaking romantic comedy featuring a predominantly LGBTQ+ cast — a film praised for its humor, authenticity, and cultural impact.
