Nobuko Miyamoto
Biography
Nobuko Miyamoto was born on 27 March 1945 in Otaru, Hokkaido, Japan, and is a highly respected Japanese actress. She began her stage career in the 1960s and later became widely recognized for her work in both cinema and television.
Miyamoto became particularly associated with the films of director Jūzō Itami, whom she married in 1969. Her notable film credits include The Funeral (1984), Tampopo (1985), A Taxing Woman (1987), A Taxing Woman's Return (1988), and Supermarket Woman (1996). She won the Japan Academy Prize for Best Actress for A Taxing Woman.
She has also appeared in acclaimed Japanese television productions such as Amachan (2013), Hiyokko (2017), and The Diamond Sleeping in the Sea (2024). In Netflix's House of Ninjas (2024), she plays Taki Tawara, the grandmother of the Tawara family and mother of Soichi.
Throughout her long career, Miyamoto has received numerous honors, including the Medal with Purple Ribbon and the Kinuyo Tanaka Award. She remains an influential figure in Japanese film, television, and theatre.
