Omar Sy

Biography

Omar Sy, born 20 January 1978 in Trappes, France, is a French actor, comedian, producer, and writer. He began his career in comedy, gaining popularity through the television sketch partnership Omar et Fred with Fred Testot.

Sy achieved his breakthrough with the 2011 French comedy-drama The Intouchables, in which he played Driss, a young caregiver who develops a close friendship with a wealthy man with a disability. His performance earned him the César Award for Best Actor, making him the first Black recipient of the award.

He subsequently built an international career with roles in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), Jurassic World (2015), Inferno (2016), and Transformers: The Last Knight (2017).

Sy became internationally recognized again as Assane Diop in Netflix's French crime series Lupin (2021–present). Inspired by the adventures of Arsène Lupin, the series follows Assane, a charismatic thief who uses elaborate disguises and clever schemes. Sy also serves as a producer on the series.

His other notable works include Samba, Chocolat, The Takedown, Father & Soldier, The Book of Clarence, and The Killer. In 2023, he co-founded Carrousel Studios, expanding his work into production.
